When engineering-led services, construction and natural resources organization CIMIC Group decided to refresh its 13 company websites, it opted for Sitecore’s modern experience platform. The transformation project, which involved upgrading from Sitecore XP to Sitecore XM Cloud and Sitecore Search, was delivered six months early. Establishing scalable digital foundations
CIMIC Group has 13 websites for its different brands, each of which needs to promote the individual company identity while ensuring consistency across the group. The group was supporting these websites on a traditional infrastructure running Sitecore XP. The infrastructure lacked scalability, however, making it difficult to add new websites or to upgrade to newer technologies. Due to technical debt, CIMIC Group struggled to update its systems to the latest versions, which resulted in security risks, increased maintenance costs, and downtime. CIMIC Group recognized that to improve digital user experiences, increase marketing efficiency, reduce costs, and support future initiatives, it needed to transform its website environment.
A pioneering approach to future-proofing 13 websites
CIMIC Group migrated from Sitecore XP to Sitecore XM Cloud for its user-friendly content authoring experience and Sitecore’s reputation as a market leader. Sitecore Search was added to enhance the content-finding experience for website users.
Other key factors for selecting the cloud-based Sitecore solutions include the composable approach, which will make it easier to deliver future global programs of work, and compatibility with AI and machine learning to support future initiatives. CIMIC Group decided to work with Sitecore Platinum Partner Codehouse as its new hosting partner for the modern experience platform.
CIMIC Group used XM Cloud to transform its 13 websites in partnership with Codehouse. Each new website has been rebuilt using reusable components in Sitecore XM Cloud. A library of these templates and components makes it easier and more efficient for authors to create content on an ongoing basis. With Sitecore XM Cloud’s robust features for tagging, storing, and searching digital assets, content creators can also find and reuse assets more easily. The project was completed on budget and six months ahead of schedule in just nine months.
Improved marketing productivity and an exceptional user experience
By transforming its approach to digital engagement across the globe with Sitecore solutions, CIMIC Group has improved the user experience, enhanced marketing productivity, and enabled greater scalability and agility to support future plans. The cloud-based web platform delivers quicker loading times and better responsiveness, plus 33% faster search capabilities with Sitecore Search. These improvements have resulted in 12% more return site visits, and an 8.3% increase month-on-month in new site visits.
CIMIC Group has also improved productivity for its web team with 240% quicker content creation and the ability to launch new websites 100% faster. With Sitecore, the group has reduced the time and effort required to create and publish content, which frees up authors to focus on strategic development. The ability to manage content across multiple websites via a single platform ensures consistency in branding and messaging, while supporting greater scalability so CIMIC Group can grow or contract its digital footprint with minimal effort.
Advanced workflows and automated processes for access control have reduced operational team maintenance and governance by 70%.
